“In 2005, I was diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis at the age of 18. I was unable to hold a pencil, could barely walk, and was in constant pain. Other notable symptoms included extreme fatigue, depression & anxiety, brain fog, and sleep problems.

The next four years were pretty ugly; I was maxed out on Methotrexate while concurrently taking high doses of Prednisone, Leflunomide, and Humira. Despite being on multiple heavy-hitting meds, I was still struggling with basic day-to-day tasks. Due to my poor response to treatment, the inclusion of an IV treatment such as Remicade was also under discussion.

Thankfully, I avoided Remicade and have slowly reversed my disease over the last 10 years using diet, movement, and functional medicine. I’ve successfully dropped 3 out of 4 meds while lowering my disease activity significantly and hope to eventually be in full remission.

Despite my unbelievable progress, the last couple of years have been relatively tough and I’m not nearly where I want to be, which is off all my meds and 100% symptom-free. This is why I’m giving carnivore a try; this should be the last elimination diet I ever have to do.

I am currently tracking symptoms every 2 hours, 8 times a day. I use a survey app that makes it stupid easy and I track symptoms on a 1-10 scale, 1 being the best, 10 being the worst. Each point on the graph is a simple moving average of the 8 logs before and the 8 logs after. So, essentially a 2-day moving average. (Though I plan on switching to an Arnaud Legoux Moving Average and increasing the length once I have enough data).

I am tracking 4 outcomes: Joint Pain, Fatigue, Mood (Anxiety/Depression), and Gut/Stomach Pain.

    Mikhaila, if you have direct access to Johnny suggest he consume more salt. It might positively impact his fatigue.

      Thanks, I try to shoot for 2 tsp of salt (4.7 g of sodium) per day, sometimes more if I break a sweat.

        That’s about what I eat. I actually probably eat more like a tablespoon. And about 2 pounds of meat.

    Yes, Kennedy, but may I suggest “mineral” salt, like the pink or grey salt! Not refined table salt.

      Thanks, I usually go for the pink salt. I’ve tried Redmond’s real salt as well but I don’t really like the texture — seems like I occasionally get a piece of sand in there.

    I find is interesting that the gut and mood are tracking together! I have serious gut issues and it does affect my mood! (to be polite)

    I hope the carnivore diet will get you to your goals, Johnny; I’m rooting for you! Those of us who have adopted the carnivore WOE for long standing health issues are a determined bunch, otherwise we’d have all given up years ago (like so many, there were plenty of times I did give up and not want to go on, but in the back of my mind, I think I always hoped there was a way out of the seemingly bottom-less pit). Stay strong and Fight on! 🙂

    Bummer, I couldn’t access your graph and info on the address you have listed. Keep going Johnny, this is a wonderful website to get some great support and ideas. I also have been struggling for over 3 decades but keep getting better on this diet!!
